(Tentative) Agenda for the Conference
Day 1 - Friday December 2, 2022
4pm – 6pm
Introduction and Setting the Tone.
The organizers will introduce themselves and give an overview of the purpose of the meeting. We will also go over the meeting’s code of conduct at this time. This session will involve a discussion about the process involved in conducting research in large-enrollment courses from the beginning to the end (i.e., from developing the research question, to selecting the appropriate methods and analysis and finally to disseminating the results). This session will be led by a researcher who has successfully carried out and disseminated results involving engagement in LECs.

Day 2 - Saturday December 3, 2022
8a – 8:30a
Breakfast
8:30am – 9:30am
Discussion of Qualitative methods and how they apply in large-enrollment courses.
This session will be co-led by 2 qualitative researchers - one from mathematics and the other from chemistry. We will seek to model how teams can work together throughout this conference. The speakers will talk about qualitative research methods by using their personal experiences with this type of research method.
9:30am – 10:30am
Practical applications of qualitative methods in large-enrollment courses
This session will involve discussions of the types of questions that can be answered using qualitative methods, how qualitative methods can be used in LECs, what the challenges may be, and ways to address those challenges.
10:30am – 10:45am
Coffee Break
10:45am – 12pm
Qualitative data analysis methods
This session will be a hands-on session, where the participants will be given sample qualitative data and asked to work on analyzing the data. This session will be an application of what was learnt in the prior qualitative sessions
12pm – 1pm
Lunch
1pm – 2pm
Discussion of Quantitative methods and how they apply in large-enrollment courses
This session will also be co-led by 2 quantitative researchers - one from mathematics and the other from chemistry. The speakers will talk about quantitative research methods by using their personal experiences with this type of research method.

4:30pm – 5pm
Large group discussion – What have you learned today?
This will be a reflection session, where the participants will be asked to highlight at least one thing they have learnt over the course of the day. This will also be a time to address questions that may not have been addressed over the course of the day.
